Livejournal epically fails.

  • Jan. 12th, 2009 at 6:25 PM
Apologies to a handful of people? I haven't gotten a comment response notification since before Christmas and I just discovered this today. At least I should be able to track some of those threads down.

(And yes, I live. Also? Is anyone on my friends list into Hetalia? :3 )

Question for the f-list?

  • May. 18th, 2008 at 3:11 AM
What's a good size for a custom mood theme? I was originally going to go with 100x50 but the smaller ones just look... cuter. Is there an obnoxious/too big size that's down as an unwritten rule somewhere?

PSA: Name Change

  • Nov. 9th, 2007 at 2:59 PM
Yet another Livejournal name change... (and just in time for the holidays too =^.^= )

from

Also, please feel free to take this opportunity to clean up your friendslist if you so desire. (If you defriend and have a Friends Only journal, dropping a comment would be appreciated but by no means necessary.)

Cheers!

Oh, Livejournal, Six Apart, and Pepsi Max

  • Aug. 21st, 2007 at 9:42 PM
I lawl at the irony of this: Pepsi V-Gifts Crits LJ-Biz User Info. [info]lj_biz's profile dies becomes a marketing tool.

Seriously though? I'm only offended there's no option for Coca~Cola. =P

Six Apart/Livejournal

  • Aug. 8th, 2007 at 7:15 AM
Considering the recent responses from Six Apart... I have one big question...

From their statement: Content that encourages or advocates hate crimes, the abuse of children in any form, or rape, even if the content itself is not illegal and may be protected by the First Amendment.

From the case law: This definition does not apply to depictions that are drawings, cartoons, sculptures, or paintings depicting minors or adults.

My question is not indignation nor annoyance. But simply put, since Six Apart is making it easier for abuse to make these decisions by using a set of blanket guidelines... here's my question.

You've just noted that fandom is strictly, not illegal. Obviously, there is a demand for fandom. There is a market. You have the technical infrastructure.

Six Apart, why not simply make a separate (and most likely Adults Only) site for members of fandom and shuffle them off there?

Or better yet, an adult only journaling community, period.

More speculation and/or suggestions... )

Obviously, if Six Apart has no intention of appealing to adult users who may want a mature setting, then obviously the whole deal is a wash. I merely propose it as an idea and most likely, the simplest way to execute a mass migration. Like leaving the kiddie table because you're making inappropriate jokes. Instead, you get to plop down with the adults and the turkey, the food, the silverware, all the bells and whistles and trimmings are exactly the same. Merely in a different context.

Considering how much annoyance people kicked up about the public image feed, ya'll wanna go and stream their voice posts too?

Weighing in on Sponsored Communities.

  • Oct. 12th, 2006 at 1:22 PM
This morning via [info]no_lj_ads, I learned that the Sponsored Community [info]scienceofsleep closed it's doors as seen on the community here. And as reported by [info]pmmarcov Sponsored Communities are intended to run for a set amount of time. I have no doubt that the despite all the backlash, the Science of Sleep benefited from the added exposure that Livejournal brought to it. However, what I can't wrap around my head is what it thought Livejournal really gave it.

I never knew that expressing interest in anything had a statue of limitations... )

Livejournal: The Text Adventure

  • Jun. 26th, 2006 at 3:27 PM
Link ganked from [info]ssjbento. Turn your userinfo into bum, bum, bum...

Livejournal Dungeon Adventure

The quotes that come out of this thing are hilarious! Now if I can just beat the damn thing...

Viva la randomness )

And I died. Damn you Renay! )

Livejournal/6A drama, yet again.

  • Jun. 26th, 2006 at 10:56 AM
Also known as: Jane! Stop this crazy thing.

Anyways, I waded through the 35+ pages on [info]news. And the Russian spammer? Needs to die a horrible, painful death.

People break down into the following categories which may or may not overlap. )

The amazing thing? I read all that junk and I really... don't care at the moment. I don't know if I've OD'd on the whole livejournalness of it or what. *sigh* I'm also sort of disappointed by the conduct of some of the livejournal users. But hey... with that many comments it'd be hard to avoid it entirely.

Comics & Livejournal/6A

  • Jun. 21st, 2006 at 6:44 PM
Comics: Okay. I bought a lot. Almost all of them rocked. I'll type up something more coherent later since "X-Men: Fairy Tales" still amuses me to death.

But first. Paul DeMeo and Danny Bilson are writing The Flash. ♥ They are writing SPOILER! ) ♥ They are the team that created "The Sentinel" \o/ I am happy and geeky in my fannish obscurity right now. My trust in this title has completely been realized. ♥ ♥ ♥

Livejournal/6A: Anyways, more dialogue between [info]mother and [info]anildash here. I haven't spoken to them since the other day. I agree with some of Anil's statements and I strongly disagree with others. Anyways, I'm now torn on 6A's professionality. Because on one hand, he's an individual stating his opinion and on the other, he no longer has the same anonimity he had a few days ago. I would post about it but I'm sure I'd just bore everyone.

four-oh-fours

  • Jun. 20th, 2006 at 8:00 PM
So [info]beckerbell linked me the Msscribe story and holy shit was that long. And I'm not in HP fandom... and I got pretty much tl;dr about halfway through but... damn... still insane. Anyways, when I was stupidly clicking links I found the following reformatted pages.

A link to an awol post shows this: Error: couldn't determine journal from arguments.

And a link to an awol comment thread kicks back this: Error: bogus arguments

And considering I was coming from a wank thread? Priceless.

Livejournal/Vox/6A

  • Jun. 19th, 2006 at 9:47 AM
So there's a ton of people signing the Livejournal Petition and honestly, I think it's the wrong way to go about things. But I understand why people want to sign.

Livejournal users are not adverse to change. Instead, we're all paranoid that everything we love will go poof. Yeah, we want the sparkly styles and features that work but your average livejournal user will be happy and sated if you give them 20 more icons. Truth, yo. Honestly, we just want things that will make better. And as for livejournal being marketed to teenagers, if you got Ljseek and look at the tag cloud "work" is much bigger than "school" and hell, "fan fiction" is on there as well. But anyways...

What really disheartens me is Vox:

http://www.vox.com/

Cut for length. )

[EDIT: Actually, the more I think about it, if Vox doesn't have any support for community management, then Vox is nothing more than a gimped version of livejournal that fails utterly on expanding social networks. Either way, launch'll be interesting. ]

[EDIT 2: Comments screened out of courtesy to give [info]anildash a chance to reply first. ]

Wow...

New Livejournal Profile Pages.

Can we say cluttered? Simply change my username to yours and you'll be good to go.

If they killed your HTML you can let them know and you can read more details at [info]lj_design

But hey, at least they realize people would want to ix-nay the evision-ray.

Livejournal/Six Apart Hiccup

  • May. 4th, 2006 at 11:33 AM
In case anyone was wondering what was up with the site last night, or just wanted more details, Six Apart ended up getting slammed with a DDoS attack.

The quick fast is this: Blue Security (a completely unrelated company) was the target of a Spammer's attack. They rerouted their front page to a blog hosted by Typepad (which is where we come in) which effectively (accidentally/inadvertantly/intentionally?) transfered the attack from their servers to Six Apart's. Which is basically what took down all the sites and us.

For more info you can read here: Computer Business Online Article & Techdirt Write-Up (the latter article, I'm more keen on.)

Next on Livejournal! When Russian Spammers Attack! ... oh wait... never mind...

Livejournal: Sponsored+

  • Apr. 20th, 2006 at 10:29 AM
So, I logged into my fic journal to play with the settings and selected the Sponsored+ level to see what it would look like. It was on generator and I have to admit it wasn't as henious as I thought it would be. I basically have the same issues everyone else has. The ads on the side are bulky, ugly and break layouts. The all white Google background looks cheesy and stupid. Now the ads at the bottom were much more to my liking although the colors still had issues.

If you get bored or interested, you can tell Livejournal what you thought and offer your two cents with ticky boxes.
Neither did I. Since I've been slacking on lj and OD'ing on WoW, and since I needed detox I decided to catch up on my friendslist. Ha. Right. I only had to go back to the 11th, you think that'd be easy. Nope. So after I hit the cap, I sorted by journals and communities. Managed to get through the journals. Communities still pushed me up to the cap with all the crossposting. Had to leave the WoW community and then I finished up. It took about three hours. (Granted, I had read posts of substance or work safe or without art work at work. Just not icon/fic/pictures.)

However. I saw tons of pretty Axel/Roxas art. I saved a ton of icons for future use. Aaaaaand. I complied a list. So I now have about 100+ fic links to read composing of Hughes stuff from the ficathon and the rest is Riku/Sora or Axel/Roxas (which is like 85%) and LeonxCloud or some combination of it all. No clue when I'll find time for that but hey-- that was half the fun. \o/ And thank god, half of them are on the [info]kh_drabble comm. And then, maybe I'll check the FF/KH newsletters to see if I missed anything. ._.

Zomg. Fandom went 'plody!

The fic links for my reference-beware the duplicates )

GIPx81

  • Apr. 1st, 2006 at 12:23 AM
So I managed to pry myself away from KHII spoilers. And I decided to upload icons. I was sick and tired of the KHII icon I had just made and tired of my Laguna-default so I started going through the icons I have saved on my harddrive and I got carried away.

So after doing that for a while, I decided to try to change all my icons but I gave up after doing 81.

The annoying thing is the fact I still have 27 slots. ._.
The fun thing is that I preserved all the keywords. Go me!
The random thing is, I always credit but usually don't comment. Oops? Doesn't it go credit > comment usually anyway?

Oooh, pretty.

Whee! More livejournal news:

Soon, you will be able to host video and audio files in addition to photos on LJ, and we're thinking we need a more inclusive name for ScrapBook.

And here: Take the survey from which the information is ganked.
