Drabble request #4, times two
Gah! These are awful, awful, awful, I don't like them. I don't like either, which is why there are two! Becky! *whines* They gave me fits and I kept thinking Eiji was going to claw my eyes out. Anyways, I like the second one moderately better, but still not much. Gah, shall ponder more, but for now..

Series: Prince of Tennis
Pairings: Tezkun/Oishi; Oishi/Eiji
Genre: Drama
Title: Inadequate (325 words)

To be the Golden Pair is not enough.

Eiji knows this.

It wasn't hard to figure out, Oishi is, after all, an open book.

Eiji's never said anything. He's never let Oishi know. Sometimes, he wished he weren't aware of it, because the knowledge hurts. It's nothing physical, Oishi's not the type to cheat. It's almost innocent, but it still makes Eiji wary.

He wishes he could talk about it with someone, but no one else knows.

Oishi and Tezuka are very subtle people, after all.

Eiji's can't describe in words what it is. Devotion is the closest term he can come up with. Oishi would follow Tezuka anywhere blindly. It unsettles Eiji to think what would happen if Oishi ever had to choose.

Because Oishi never fights with Tezuka. Tezuka's never let Oishi down. Oishi is always there for Tezuka, without being asked. Because Tezuka actually lets Oishi in. Because Oishi smiles for Tezuka, (even though it's not as bright as the smiles for Eiji). Because Tezuka knows Oishi's moods, something Eiji's trying to become more perceptive of.

It's the way Oishi hands him papers, just knowing which Tezuka wants. It's how Oishi knows what calls Tezuka's going to make when on the court. They move in synchronization that would rival the Golden Pair on the court. There is more than life and relationships besides tennis after all. They work without words, without dialogue, without direction. Instinctive and unfaltering. They're like an old married couple, Eiji realizes. Not that the thought soothes him in the least. Eiji still wonders why they split up.

He'd probably relax if he knew the reason was indeed him.

Eiji knows that what he and Oishi have is real, yet he also knows that it's not yet as deep as what Tezuka and Oishi has shared. Will it ever get to that point? Is it possible?

Can it really enough to be Golden, when one has already known Platinum?

and...

Title: Apart (331 words)

The airport is busy, like all airports are. It's loud and it's crowded, but somehow they don't notice. Ryuzaki-sensei has deliberately gone to peruse a magazine stand, and Oishi and Tezuka are looking out the window. Soon, Tezuka will be on a plane and far away from Seishun Gakuen.

Oishi doesn't want him to go, but he knows he has to.

The words are few, all shallow. Generic well wishes and good fortune.

Neither says what's on their mind, and ironically, they share the same thought. Will you be okay without me?

That is the nature of their relationship. Support and trust, faith and conviction, which won't work if one isn't present.

Anywhere Tezuka goes, Oishi would follow. But now, he can't, he has to stay behind. It was never part of their promise to go on alone. They never thought of doing it alone, never fathomed it. Together to the Nationals.

It would be meaningless if Tezuka wasn't there.

But Oishi doesn't voice his feelings. He can't. Now, he must fill in for Tezuka, it's what Tezuka expects of him and he can't let him down. Tezuka was the one guiding, leading, determined to claim their promise, and now, he trusts Oishi to take his place. Oishi can't let him down, won't let him down. This is just a different way of doing it together, its persevering when the other has faltered.

Keeping up the momentum until the other can catch up again.

This isn't a 'goodbye', it's an 'until later.'

The airport is still busy, like most airports are. It's loud and it's crowded, giving them some privacy in the oddest of ways. Ryuzaki-sensei is still gone, and Oishi and Tezuka embrace once, only for a moment. Soon, Tezuka will be through the gate, and the plane will ascend and Oishi will do nothing but watch.

Oishi still doesn't want him to go, but he knows that Tezuka will be back.

After all, they still have a promise.

Together.

You know, this is why I keep attempting to drag you into the TeniPuri fic-writing world, because... you get the characters, because I'm amazed by how wonderfully you weave the character insights into the stories, because your writing is gorgeous, because I swoon over your Oishi and Tezuka. I really do.

I honestly can't decide which one I like best, because the first one has all this depth to it, you make Eiji even more human in my eyes (rather than just the bouncy ball of fluff), give him insecurities and doubts, yet at the same time, it never even crosses his mind that Oishi doesn't love him. I adore that. And the second... I just *squee* with how gorgeous your TezukaOishi is, how... supportive and wonderful their friendship has remained, how much genuine caring is there, on both sides.

....baaahhh, I babble, you see what you do to me?

*huggles* And I'm really sorry about flaking on you tonight!! I went to lie down for a few minutes to take the edge off my sleepiness (having been up since about 2am) while the CD burned and when I got back up somehow it was 2am again. =_= I suck. =_=

Oishi and Tezuka are so spiffy great, but I always get the vibe that it wouldn't have worked out in the long run, that both would be dissatisfied but neither would have affairs, y'know? The whole, well I'd rather spend time with Eiji/Fuji/Atobe-ness, because there's nothing to complain about but there's nothing to sparkle about their relationship either.

Gah! I sound like I'm making an argument for anti-Tez/Oishi/ *bops self* Anyways, that probably made no sense.

And dude, your McDonalds and CD... o.O You have the weirdest sleeping habits ever. And you need to get online so you can tell me which episode is the Eiji doesn't move for like three games b/c I want to watch it and can't recall.

No, no, that makes perfect sense and I'm nodding along with you. Tezuka nad Oishi aren't really what each of them needs, they're wonderful friends and they would both be saddened/lessened without that friendship, but Oishi needs someone who's more open and wears their emotions closer to the surface. Tezuka needs someone who is more... on his level. Which isn't to insult Oishi, because he's absolutely perfect the way he is and where he is right now.

If they hadn't broken up... I don't think they'd resent each other or that they would cheat on each other, but they would both know that it wasn't... quite fulfilling for both of them, that there was some key ingredient missing. So, while a part of me does wish they could have been together forever, I'm happy with the way things turned out, because they get to have that sparkle in their lives and keep the sparkly friendship they have.

Sowwy~ =_= I was sooooo tired, though. *ahem* Ummm, Eiji doesn't move for, like, three games in the St. Rudolph's match, because Mizuki calculated it that way, so it'd probably be somewhere in the thirties, I think? Not sure of the exact number.

Oishi and Tezkun just really need someone more dynamic and outgoing than themselves. That's why they would have initially worked because Oishi reached out and befriended Tezuka. ^_^ We're debating/discussing this even though we agree, we're so weird.

Oh, and danke. I could not for the life of me remember when that match was. It's like, well they were actually playing doubles together, a rare occassion in itself. :-p Oh and there's Oishi angst ficcy after Josei arc up at ff.net, take a perusal. ^_^ It's gots Tezkun mentioned heavily.

Yeah, they initially worked because Oishi follows Tezuka, he reaches out first, and Tezuka eventually accepts him. Tezuka reaches out in his own way, but eventually... it wouldn't be enough for Oishi. And, yeah, a little bit of it is that they're both the (pardon the phrasing) the straight man in the relationship, they each need the whacky redhead to play off them. ^_~ (Fuji can technically count as a redhead, eh...? ^_~)

>:P That is one thing that bugs me about TeniPuri--a lot of the characters really got shortchanged for the umpteenth Ryoma match that was basically the same as the last one. We only got to see Tezuka play once and while that was the single most amazing match in the series, I would have liked to have seen kickass!Tezuka more often.

The one by CalicoCat (?)? I saw, but haven't read yet, was going to run it by you to see if I should read or not. I was hoping for Tezuka mentions. *sparkles*

I think part of this is that Tezuka's so stoic and Oishi rather enjoys being selfless and revels in the smiles of others, and while I'm sure Oishi would smile a lot for Tezuka, there's no way Tezuka could compare to Eiji's bouncy enthusiasm. It's like instant feedback in the way of a "Hoi Hoi!" and a grin.

Fuji can technically count as a redhead, eh...?

Um, no, he's gots the brown hair. I shall only concede this point if you agree that Ryoma's is green.

That is one thing that bugs me about TeniPuri--a lot of the characters really got shortchanged for the umpteenth Ryoma match that was basically the same as the last one.

Well, Ryoma's matches are typical predictable-- excepting the ones he plays against Nanjiroh (which there needs to be more of) and Tezkun, but those are predictable in their own "Ryoma will lose" trend. I really want to see Ryoma-Fuji match continued. But Tournament!Ryoma. Yawn, he'll win.

We only got to see Tezuka play once and while that was the single most amazing match in the series, I would have liked to have seen kickass!Tezuka more often.

Well, look at it this way, if Ryoma's a prince, then Tezuka's probably king right now. ;-)

The one by CalicoCat (?)? I saw, but haven't read yet, was going to run it by you to see if I should read or not. I was hoping for Tezuka mentions.

Which there are copious amounts off,

Oh my god. You have a CKR icon. *hugtackles* Will not obsess about due South, will not obsess about due South...

As for Prince of Tennis and Oishi, anything I've written gets logged in my memories which you may have seen. I'm a GP fan and a TezuOishi so... that's the undercurrents you'll find. ^_^

I adore CKR. I was obsessed with dueSouth. I even had a friend find me a copy of "Hard Core Logo" because I was all sparkly over CKR. Man, I haven't seen dueSouth in ages, but it was a fun crack addled show. The duck boys, Deifenbaker, Stanley Kowalski. Hee! ^_^ See, I told you not to get me started.
